
Born into the artist tradition by the founders of DC's own 1800 Belmont Arts, Amber Mimz was destined to be an artist, but specifically a musician. She was accepted to Duke Ellington School of the Arts where she studied classical music under the guidance of Stanley Webber and Samuel Bonds. Further into her study of music she began to love jazz, she later joined Ellington's Jazz Band lead by Davey Yarbourough.

Through the encouragement of her mentor, Mr. Yarborough and natural talent for Jazz, she was accepted to New School University's Jazz and Contemporary Music Program. Ms. Mimz has had the opportunity to study with jazz greats Chico Hamilton, Reggie Workman, Kevin Burke, and Carla Cook to name a few.
She has been able to perform at Universities, Festivals and clubs in the DC, New York- New Jersey, and Atlanta areas. Some include The Bitter End, Crash Mansion, Opening for Lil Moe and Damien Marley at DC's Annual Summer Uni-fest, and a featured vocalist in the Coltrane Ensemble at the Manhattan Society's tribute to Roy Hanes. In addition to performing on stage, behind the scenes Ms. Mimz helps promote Album release parties for Giant Step Records and also worked for Red, A distribution and Artist development label under Sony Records. 21 and now working on solo compositions and group projects, this artistically talented and savvy young lady hopes to bring something new to the world of music. Jazz, R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop she is slowly but surely bound to fulfill her musical ambition. |
